Illinois Hunger Coalition: Increasing Voter Registration in Chicago Communities

The Illinois Hunger Coalition will be training community members to register voters in low-income communities by leveraging established relationships.

The Problem

While the DMV registers voters, this excludes a specific amount of eligible voters who do not have a drivers license.

The Solution

The IHC and recruited and trained community leaders will go to DHS offices, which serve millions of low-income individuals daily, to register voters. The IHC has established collaborative partnerships with the DHS offices through its organizing work. We will be registering voters during the week of National Voter Registration Day (September 25th).

Planned Use Of Funds

The IHC would use the funding to support transportation and training costs to help reach as many individuals as possible.

Organization to Receive Funds

The Illinois Hunger Coalition (IHC) seeks to #EndHungerNow and end hunger's underlying causes through community organizing, advocating for progressive public policies, and public education. Founded in 1988, the IHC is celebrating 30 years as the only state-wide anti-hunger advocacy organization!
