Fair Districts PA

Help Pennsylvania reclaim real representation by changing the way electoral districts are drawn.

The Problem

Pennsylvania's legislators draw district lines in ways that ensure incumbent protection and put far too much power in the hands of a few. Our state is one of the most gerrymandered in the nation and our state legislature no longer reflects the values or interests of the people of Pennsylvania. To resolve legislative gerrymandering we'll need to convince legislators to give up this power and amend the state constitution.

The Solution

Our goal is to push our legislature to pass an amendment creating an independent citizens redistricting commission for both congressional and legislative districts, with strong rules for transparency and standards prohibiting use of partisan data and requiring minimal splits of municipalities and counties. This would ensure districts that reflect communities and voters. The only way to do this is through a strong, local, grassroots movement putting pressure on individual legislators in their own districts.

Planned Use Of Funds

We have built a strong grassroots movement funded almost entirely by small dollar on-line donations. Since early 2017 we've grown from a small centralized team to building local presence in more than half our counties. We would use funding to double our petition signatures and put at least ten more local county groups in place.

Organization to Receive Funds

Fair Districts PA, a non-partisan, grassroots, all-volunteer coalition begun in January 2016 to address partisan gerrymandering in Pennsylvania. In the last twenty months we've gone from about a handful of volunteers to a biweekly email to over 7000 committed volunteers, from across the state and across the political spectrum. All believe this issue is foundational to the health of our state and our democracy.
