One America West Virginia

Fighting Opioids, Overturning Divisive Narratives, Bridging Divides

The Problem

America is a deeply fractured country. Our divides go beyond a lack of civil dialogue and reflect a deeper disconnection between people, people and their government and between entire communities. Demagogues and divisive political figures leverage these divides, pushing struggling communities to see their political opponents as the source of their troubles. These fractures have two direct consequences: 1. they increase hostility, hate, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, racism etc. between communities. 2. they make it more difficult to address pressing community problems amidst divisive and broken politics.

The Solution

One America West Virginia brings together predominately liberal faith groups from Washington DC and predominately conservative groups from West Virginia to work together to fight the opioid epidemic in a three-county area of West Virginia. By bringing together Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Evangelical Christians, along with law enforcement, health officials, mothers of opioid victims, we are upending these divisive narratives and showing that we can improve our communities by working together.
