Women for Election: Working Towards Balanced Representation in Irish Politics

Aim to train 300+ women to run for political office in advance of the 2019 local elections.

The Problem

Women have been underrepresented in Irish politics for decades. Independent research has identified five main challenges preventing more women from running for office: childcare, cash, culture, confidence, and candidate selection. Both men and women, in Ireland and beyond, need to unite to combat these challenges.

The Solution

Women for Election is an Irish nonprofit organization with a vision of a balanced gender representation in Irish political life. Women for Election seeks to equip qualified female candidates for political success. It does this by providing those candidates with cash and childcare and training them to campaign effectively. For the 2019 local elections, Women for Election aims to recruit and train over 300 women to run in the local elections.
