Girl Trek: Walking to Take Back Power

Co-create a health and community leadership movement with African-American women and girls, grounded in civil rights history and principles.

The Problem

America is facing a major obesity crisis that has an impact on all segments of society; African American women are disproportionately burdened by the epidemic, and threatened by associated (preventable) conditions that are, in many cases, life-threatening.

The Solution

Girl Trek helps to address the health epidemic that the African American female community faces. Girl Trek has set a bold aim to get 1 million African American women to commit to walking in their neighborhoods each Saturday while wearing their "superhero" blue t-shirt. In fulfilling such an aim, GirlTrek will both re-establish walking campaigns as a cultural tradition, and improve the health and the lives of countless individuals.
