The Seasteading Institute: Building Floating Islands that could fight the rise of sea levels

An approach that could help populations displaced by rising sea levels

The Problem

Small islands around the world are threatened by rising sea levels due to climate change. Many, in fact, are likely to submerge under rising sea levels in the coming decades.

The Solution

The Seastead Institute has created a technology that could produce floating cities. Part of their vision is to test building new communities that can live and govern themselves in new, autonomous ways. These islands could also provide a solution for keeping island communities together and close-by their original home. Obviously, living on a seastead is different from living on an actual island, but if relocation is necessary, this alternative may be more suitable for island communities.
