An approach to converting waves into renewable energy

The Problem

A majority of damaging greenhouse gas emissions result from burning non-renewable energy sources like fossil fuels. To minimize our reliance on fossil fuels, we need to find clean, renewable alternatives. Scientists have long speculated that the motion of the ocean's waves could produce clean, renewable energy but for a time, this solution existed only in theory.

The Solution

Northwest Energy Innovations developed its Azura technology to convert the endless supply of ocean waves into energy and electricity. Unlike other similar technologies, Azura extracts energy from both the heave (vertical) and the surge (horizontal) motion of the wave, producing power from this action. The power of the wave rotates a generator, producing electricity. That electricity is then transferred to the nearest power grid via underwater power cable.
