Aircarbon: Providing a carbon negative plastic alternative

description

An approach to creating plastics from carbon waste

The Problem

The majority of plastics used around the world are made from petroleum in processes that produce considerable amount of CO2 during production. Billions of tons of these plastics are made with lifespans that stretch hundreds of years, creating a waste disposal problem for our environment and oceans.

The Solution

Newlight Technologies is trying to tackle the first part of the plastics problem (the CO2 production). They have created a material called Aircarbon, which is a plastic that is made not from petroleum, but by taking methane-based carbon (from landfills, farms, etc.) and converting it into plastic polymers.

Stage of Development

scaling

Organization to Receive Funds

Shared Nation would support Newlight Technologies which develops air-carbon.
