Digital Citizen Fund: Educating Afghan Women Through Digital Literacy

The Digital Citizen Fund helps girls in Afghanistan gain access to the internet so that the can further their education and develop the skills necessary to succeed in today's world.

The Problem

Only 5% of Afghanistan's population has access to the internet. A much smaller fraction of those with internet access are women and children. Without access to the internet, women in Afghanistan are inhibited from pursuing their passions, taking political action, and making a better life for themselves.

The Solution

The Digital Citizen Fund is a nonprofit organization that helps girls in Afghanistan and other developing countries gain access to internet technology, connect virtually with others, and obtain the skills necessary to become successful in today's globalized world. Digital Citizen Fund focuses on building Internet Training Centers for women. To date, Digital Citizen Fund has trained over 9,000 young women in Afghanistan. Digital Citizen Fund has since expanded to Mexico and is ready to scale the model to other countries with additional funding.
