JSEC Goods-Weekend Warriors

JSEC Goods is a Non-Profit Organization that serves Juanita Sanchez Students in need. JSEC Goods is for the Students, run by the Students. JSEC Goods addresses hunger needs and food insecurity within the JSEC community.

The Problem

JSEC Goods mission is to address hunger needs for JSEC students and families, and to provide food every weekend, by offering non-perishable goods to those in need. JSEC Goods created a food pantry for the school because 87% of our students at JSEC receive free or reduced lunch. This data shows that we need to address food insecurity in our community.

We also are looking to expand and offer a quick breakfast or snack in the mornings for students who did not eat breakfast at home. We have noticed that since we have opened our pantry, students come to us and ask for a snack to help them get through the morning. 20,000 students in Providence, RI depend on the food at school to nurture them, JSEC Goods extends that same need for our students over the weekend.

The Solution

We believe that creating this food pantry at our school will help keep students focused, motivate students to do better academically, address attendance issues, give families hope and support, and foster equality and community within our students. Our vision is to make sure that no JSEC student comes to school hungry or goes to bed hungry. We feed families every Friday-Sunday with backpacks that are filled with 3 dinners, 2 lunches, and 3 breakfasts. We help students and families who need that extra help.
