Coastal Protection Engineering: An Exciting Renewable Energy Breakthrough

Harnessing sea power while protecting coastal communities against rising sea-levels.

The Problem

One inevitability of climate change is global sea level rise, as more and more ice melts into a warming sea. Coastal communities are already facing problems of erosion, but if the world's oceans were to increase from 70 percent of the total surface area to 80 percent, then the process would accelerate dramatically.

The Solution

Coastal Protection Engineering was started to promote founder Peter Tse's pioneering coastal protection system - the Ecological Artificial Barrier Reef. The system harnesses the untapped potential of the ocean using pump hydro storage and hydroelectricity to generate and store energy until needed. It's designed as a circular structure with turbines that moves seawater around three reservoirs to create a continuous energy generating loop; it generates energy and creates a protective environment similar to the great barrier reef.
