The Last Plastic Straw

Protecting the ocean from plastic pollution fighting the spread of single-use straws.

The Problem

Some 500 million straws are used and discarded every day in the United States alone. That means 175 billion straws a year filter into landfills and litter our waterways and oceans, sickening marine animals that ingest them. US consumption enough straws to wrap around the earth's circumference 2.5 times a day.

The Solution

The Last Plastic Straw strives to educate the public about the absurdity of single-use plastic, its effects on our health, our environment, and our oceans, with the ultimate aim of eliminating it. The organization works to enlist bars and restaurants in its campaign, encouraging them to provide a (compostable or reusable) straw only when requested by a customer or get rid of them entirely.
