Susan G. Komen: Fighting to End Breast Cancer

description
Susan G. Komen aims to reduce the number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the United States by 2026.

The Problem

When women are diagnosed with breast cancer, they often suffer in silence and isolation. There are too few resources available for women who are dealing with this diagnosis. Breast cancer remains the leading malignancy for women in the United States. Less known is breast cancer is on the rise in developing countries as well. Worldwide breast cancer malignancy is expected to rise by 50% in the next decade. Most of these increases are expected to take place in developing countries.

The Solution

The Susan G. Komen foundation takes a pluralistic approach to addressing breast cancer. The organization focuses on research, education, and direct help. The Koman foundation has provided more funding for breast cancer research than any other organization in the world. And in terms of its direct support, Komen focuses on vulnerable women with the fewest resources. Komen does not plan to stop fighting until breast cancer has been eradicated.
