28 Too Many: Working to end female genital mutilation
The Problem
Female genital mutilation is a cultural practice whereby a women's genitals are either cut or else removed. The practice has existed for thousands of years, but it is inhuman, and it can cause a series of related health problems including severe blood loss, difficulty urinating, mental health problems, and pain during sex. In some cases, the practice even leads to death. The practice is sadly still rampant. An estimated 200 millions women alive today have undergone female genital mutilation.
The Solution
28 Too Many is a UK based anti FGM organization working to end female genital mutilation in Africa and in the European diaspora. 28 Too Many works to provide tools, knowledge, and best practices to assist local anti-FGM campaigns. By working with local campaigns on the ground, 28 Too Many is able to provide much needed resources and expertise to keep these local initiatives going. 28 Too Many plans to continue its efforts until FGM is no longer practices anywhere in the world.
