Monterey Bay Electric Vehicle Alliance: Promoting rapid adoption of plug-in electric vehicles

Working to get more electric vehicle charging stations in Monterey County.

The Problem

Each year, some 83 million cars are produced worldwide. Currently, only a small fraction of those cars (<3%) are fully electric vehicles. Electric vehicles, by themselves, do not necessarily reduce carbon. But, if electric vehicles can be powered by solar energy (or some other renewable source), then carbon emissions by cars would be reduced by 95%.

The Solution

The Monterey Bay Electric Vehicle Alliance started in 2009 as a grassroots public-private partnership to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in California. MBEVA works to increase funding for (and installation of) more electric vehicle charging stations, increased public awareness of electric vehicles, increased training for providing maintenance for electric vehicles, and advocating state and local governments to more comprehensively support pro-electric vehicle policies.
