350.org: Stop the Keystone and Dakota Access Pipelines campaign

A campaign to stop construction of damaging oil pipelines

The Problem

Earlier this year, Donald Trump signed an executive order restarting the construction of the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines. Together, these pipelines reopen the American market for Canadian oil production sites. Bill McKibben of 350.org believes these pipelines alone could raise the carbon dioxide in Earth’s atmosphere by 200 parts per million (ppm). Considering that humanity has already surpassed the 350 ppm threshold, which scientists warn is the safe limit for Carbon dioxide, such an influx of carbon emissions would have a devastating effect on the well-being of the planet.

The Solution

350.org has launched a civil disobedience campaign to do whatever is necessary to stop the construction of both the Keystone and Dakota Access pipelines. Resistance - in the form of protests and other events across the nation - is the first in a wave of actions to stop these two pipelines from coming to fruition.
