Idle No More: Protesting for indigenous rights and land

A protest movement to help Native American Tribes protect their land and sovereignty

The Problem

For centuries, indigenous, sovereign native American nations suffered the impacts of exploration, invasion, and colonization. And while some believe these problems to be in the past, Native American communities still face countless environmental, economic, and social injustices. In particular, their rights and their lands are threatened by government policies and damaging industrial projects.

The Solution

Idle No More is an ongoing protest movement in Canada amongst the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples. Idle No More, the organization, calls on all people to join in their movement to honor Indigenous sovereignty, and to protect Mother Earth. Their largest campaign has focused on taking down Bill C-45; a law that makes it easier for the Canadian Government to claim access to Native American land. They have drawn international attention, and are a model for other movements of indigenous people.
